A few links for your Friday Afternoon. And if you don't know who Frenchy is, shame on you! He was the intended target on the Immaculate Reception, but more importantly, he was the Doc Ellis of the Steelers. He nicknamed himself "The French Count" and is "remembered for being one of the flashiest dressers in the NFL, and would occasionally appear in public wearing platform shoes having see-through heels that contained water and a live tropical fish selected from his aquarium to match the color of the day's outfit." He had his own fan club named "Frenchy's Foreign Legion" and created a candy bar on the 35th anniversary of the "Immaculate Reception" called the "Immaculate Confection." He's the type of guy who would be hanging out with Coffee Brown and Jackie Moon.
Here's a good post at FanGraphs about Charlies Morton's fantasy value. I really like Morton and think he'll be as valuable as Duke and Maholm this upcoming season. As the article states, he needs to even out his platoon splits, lower his walk rates, and up his strikeout rates. That's a lot to ask from a guy who has just 33 GS in his ML career. But he'd be the one guy I would make sure not to miss, because he's got the stuff to throw a gem anytime out.
If you are thinking about coming to just one Pirate game this season, I would say this one. Two things that your Dad loved in the '70s, Bucco Baseball and Steve Miller Band.
The Pens lost last night and if you want my thoughts, quit being lazy and scroll down. But if you want a better/funnier recap, go to the PensBlog.
This is probably the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. I hope some guy did this as part of his dissertation. Either that or right after he took a huge bong rip with his buddies, in between coughing, he says, "Dude, I got it. The Big Lebowski and Romeo & Juliet. How sweet would that be?" (Courtesy of the Tall Guy).
More links to come later... Maybe.
